AOL & MSN gearing up to merge?

This alledged conversation seem so "2000" to me. The AOL Time Warner merger (announced in 2000 and effected in 2001) seems a distant memory.  My outdated notions of the upstart AOL and the always-a-bridesmaid MSN must be at fault here.  It also brings back memories of the major computer vendors acquiring one another in an attempt to compete with IBM, and finding that growth by acquisition is tough, if not tortured.
